Calshot Sailing Club hosted the Southern Traveller on Sunday 22nd April 2007 and I believe it was attended by 42 competitors. I'm still waiting for someone to provide a report for the day so I'm afraid I don't have any more information on what happened. If you know anyone who has written anything suitable for this page, please let me know!
The following information was provided for the competitors before the day:
The following report was published on the Southern Toppers web site...

It was a cloudy day that met 35 competitors at Calshot, for the Southern Area Championships supported by NPower, with a F4/5 blowing, and a good Solent chop in place, it looked like it could be a tough day on the water.
The first race was cleanly away at 12:05. What was to be the pattern for all 3 races was quickly established, with the top half-dozen boats leading the bulk of the pack, with the younger sailors at the back as they struggled with the wind and waves. Race 1 saw James Spencer winning, with Peter McCoy second and Phil McCoy third.
The wind had eased a little as race 2 saw another good fleet start, with the leading group pulling away up the first beat. The conditions were made harder as the wind increased under the clouds, as race 2 was led home by James, Tom Walker second, and Peter third, with some close finishes through the pack.
The wind and waves had eased for another tight start for race 3. This led to closer racing, but a group of five boats pulled clear again. Race 3 was won by Phil, second James, and third Peter.
Calshot Sailing Club hosted the Southern Traveller on 3rd September 2005 and it was a great day.
We had the sun, sea, waves and wind (all at the same time too!) for the Topper Southern Area Traveller at Calshot S.C. on Saturday. Probably the best days racing this summer as one competitor put it. There were 24 entries ranging from national and zone squaddies to three young local sailors to whom this was their first event. The wind was an onshore F4-F5 with challenging waves for a Topper.
Race 1 got underway cleanly first time with the two NJS members Alex Cooper and Samantha Gray first to the windward mark, followed by Phil McCoy and Tom Walker. On the first run, Alex and Sam stretched out a small lead over Phil and Tom who in turn had a small lead over the chasing pack. Alex and Sam continued to extend their lead on the next two legs, with Alex having to sail hard to keep Sam at bay on the final run. Alex taking the line honours followed by Sam, Phil and Tom.
Race two had a clean start with Alex and Sam again taking the lead, with Tom and Phil in pursuit followed by the pack. On the first run, Alex was struggling to keep Sam behind and at the leeward mark the pair found Tom and Phil had gone through into the lead, while they were fighting for positions!. Better reading of the tide put Alex and Sam back in front at the second windward mark though and this time Alex could not hold Sam as she took the lead on the run and started to pull away. Things got worse for Alex, as Tom and Phil also got past. Sam winning from Tom, Phil and Alex.
With Samantha Gray leading Alex Cooper overall, Alex needed a win in the final race to take the event from Sam. Things looked good for Alex at the first mark, until a 360 turn for touching the mark let Tom Walker into the lead, which he never looked like losing. A third from Sam (pictured) was enough to win her home event.
There were some fabulous prizes from the event sponsors Solent Sailboards, Calshot Activities Centre and Hythe Marina Water Sports. Many thanks go to them and all the Calshot team who put such a lot of work into this event.
A special mention must go to the three young Calshot newcomers, Sophie Shimell, Thomas Rapson and Danielle Thomas who, with reefed sails, sailed most of the races to the end despite this being their first event.

Calshot Sailing Club hosted the I.T.C.A Southern Area Championships and Southern Traveller on Sunday 23rd May 2004.
The mixed ability fleet of 23 competitors started the first race in light winds. Sam Coombs won Race 1 with a convincing lead, after the course was shortened due to the light winds and tide.
For Race 2 the course was smaller but the wind was decreasing, and the competitors certainly needed to use their light wind sailing skills. Once again Sam Coombs was first across the finishing line.
As the sea breeze arrived and the wind shifted the O.O.D changed the course for the final race. After two general recalls the black flag was raised and on the third attempt to start with Sam Coombs O.C.S, Robert Spencer won race 3.
After two protests were heard and a good tea, the generous prizes, supplied by I.T.C.A and Hythe Marina Water Sports were awarded.
It was a successful event and the sailors were congratulated on the high ability of sailing shown throughout.
